Lowes Home Improvement Warehouse is the second largest home improvement store in the US, after Home Depot. Starting as a single neighborhood hardware store in 1946, Lowes Home Improvement has grown over the years, operating over 1,300 home improvement and appliance stores across 49 states. Vermont is the only state in the US without a Lowes Home Improvement store. Beginning 2007, Lowes Home Improvement will be operating in Canada, and in Mexico by the year 2009. The chain is currently based in Mooresville, North Carolina.
